Using your Roll Top Bags
Choose the right size
Roll top bags come in three sizes, each recommended for different uses. Here are the closed dimensions of each:
Small
Medium
6"x7"x5.5" (~231 cubic inches / 4 qts / 3.8 liters)
Recommended for: meals and dopp kits.
Large
Bags also come in up to five colors, so choosing different colors for different uses can help with organization.
Fill with gear, roll and snap closed
Each bag can be filled between two-thirds and three-quarters full. Once filled, roll the top of each bag down 3 times, then snap closed to create a weatherproof seal and a convenient carrying handle.
Bags are highly water resistant and will stand up to heavy rains, but are not designed to be submerged.
Label the brass tags
To help stay organized, use a permanent marker to label the brass tags on each bag and let dry for five minutes. Once dry, the ink will be semi-permanent, and can be wiped clean with water, alcohol, or glass cleaner.
Use for campsite organization
Unlike nylon stuff sacks, these waxed canvas bags will stand open when empty, aiding in campsite organization. The bags can also be hung by the leather strap from a tree branch or other hook, creating convenient access off the ground.
Clean gently, and recoat as needed
With use, these roll top bags will develop a slight patina and the waxy feel will soften to a velvety texture. Remove superficial dirt with a medium-soft plastic bristle brush, and clean gently by hand with with light soap and water for more significant stains. Allow to air dry completely before storing.
Cleaning may remove some of the wax coating, but your canvas bags can be recoated indefinitely. Recoating is a simple process that can be performed with a wax paste and common household tools. We recommend Martexin Original Wax, available in our store, and you can follow th instructions in this video from WaterField Designs to recoat your bag.
